We took the La Vela Classic cruise and had a very good experience on this boat.
It’s not a very new cruise. The cabin is quite small but has very comfortable bed. Restaurant is big with very good meals, we really enjoyed the dinner with Vietnamese foods ( thanks to Chef).
Staffs are very good.
Would like to recommend to all the people.

Our La Vela Classic was modeled on the early Art Deco Indochinese design popular in the early 20th Century. After recent renovation, Paradise is proud to present a brand new concept to La Vela Classic with a fusion design, combining modern interior with typical décor of Vietnamese northern uplands. For example, the cabin walls covered with brocade of ethnic people from Sapa bring a very authentic touch to the interior design of the boat. 24 expertly crafted cabins, including Deluxe rooms and Suite, are arranged over two decks, leaving the upper deck for the elegant dining room, above which is the stylishly furnished sundeck.
La Vela Classic offers an optimum cruising route that takes you to the main highlights and most scenic parts of Halong Bay.
Kayaking and swimming is a focal point, and we hunt out the most beautiful areas for an unforgettable dip in the emerald green waters and splendid kayaking routes to make your own way through the Bay.
Offering afternoon cooking classes, guests will have a chance to learn more about Vietnamese culinary art and self prepare some signature Vietnamese dishes right on the cruise sundeck under the instruction of our expert chefs.
A wide range of exciting onboard activities are also included: early morning Tai Chi, kite – flying for children, squid fishing, spa services & beauty treatment.
Providing the utmost in safety is a primary concern, and the cruise ship is fitted with modern navigation and safety apparatus, while the cabins have fire extinguishers, alarm systems and life jackets.

We all heard about how Halong Bay is a must-see when travelling to Vietnam. And there are a lot of cruise companies that take travellers on tour packages around Halong Bay. Well, I got recommended to La Vela by some backpackers I made friends with at Hanoi. After a lot of researching on the web, myself and two other friends booked a cruise with La Vela for a 2 day 1 night cruise trip in June. Without any experience with any other Halong Bay tour cruises, I think it’d be tough to be La Vela. Here’s why:
1) The staff was amazing. All of the staff that we interacted with were young (early 20s to mid 30s, I’d say), friendly, funny, informative, and accommodating. Everyone was super welcoming and willing to help. Anything from helping us with our luggage, to providing information about itinerary/activities, to making sure meals are prepared according to our dietary restrictions (my friend is allergic to coriander, which is pretty much everywhere in Vietnamese cuisine), they couldn’t have been more on point. Jackie Ngo Tat Thanh, the tour manager, really went out of his to make our tour the best possible. He gave out free drinks just for our group during our first meal and that left a great impression (he probably noticed that we were the youngest tour group on the cruise and felt we could use a drink to kick back on). Even at the end of our cruise trip, he helped book our stay at Sapa for the next day since we were having trouble looking for a place to stay! Great service. Also, Teddy, another member of the cruise staff, was really funny and great at getting all those aboard the cruise to take part in the activities for kayaking, hiking, and cooking class.
2) The cruise ship itself is beautiful. It seemed brand spanking new and the room, bathroom, restaurant, top deck, were very well maintained. Everything was in tip top condition. Everything was clean and tidy. It was great to be able to relax and enjoy a drink at the top deck during the evening at the end of the day’s activities and then enjoy quality sleep in our clean comfy room. When we passed by other cruises during our trip, no other ships looked to be on the same level as La Vela. Not even close.
3) The activities are awesome. Although 2 days 1 night isn’t a long tour for Halong Bay, La Vela managed to incorporate kayaking, cave exploring, beach time, and cooking class without rushing us through each activities or interfering with the rest and relaxation on the cruise ship. The tours and activities were very well planned and organized.
The cruise is definitely worth it. It isn’t the “go to” option for travellers on a tight budget. But you’ll get more than what you pay. All the excitement for the activities and sight seeing, plus great service from a great team of staff, and the best quality in rest & relaxation for a trip to Halong Bay.
